Yes, it’s a Tulip Festival!
And we’ve been busy, bringing the beauty of the bloom to the Fraser Valley for the last 12 years!
You might know us as team tulip, as locals often call us. Because, since 2006, our family has been working our farming magic in the majestic Fraser Valley fields, growing colourful arrays of beautiful tulips, to bring you our impressive outdoor event, Tulips of the Valley -the largest and oldest tulip festival in western Canada.
We may be the oldest and biggest, but the flower is the star!
We should know. Onos Greenhouses has grown tulips since 1990, when the family immigrated to Canada. It started out as a cut flower operation, but then we thought, the beauty of the fields should be shared with more than just our family. So, began The Tulips of the Valley Festival, an Agritourism highlight of the Fraser Valley and Chilliwack. Celebrating Tulips, Hyacinths and Double Daffodils.
Why? Because tulips are for everyone!
We wanted to create a space where families, friends, and flowers, could come together in one place, to celebrate nature, farming and the beauty of Spring. That’s when Tulips of the Valley became the first Tulip Festival in Western Canada!
Thanks to the support of the local community, we became the grow-to experts on tulips!
We were so successful, we were asked to do presentations on how to grow them, which we brought to several garden clubs in the lower mainland, even as far as Sechelt on the Sunshine Coast. We were also part of the Agassiz Circle Farm Tour for those first 10 years. And boy, did we love it!
Now, we’ve moved to Chilliwack where we have 20 acres of amazing tulips for you to see, in a mix of astounding colours that will be the star of your Facebook or Instagram page, or maybe that post card you send back to the family.
We’ve grown so popular, that in October 2017, we were recognized at the World Tulip Summit in Ottawa.
We received the Order of the Tulip. Yes, there is such a thing. It wasn’t for winning a battle. It was for bringing beauty to everyone, by introducing tulips to British Columbia and Western Canada. And now, Tulips of the Valley is recognized on the worldwide stage as a Canadian ambassador of the Tulip.
We do this for more than awards. We want people to feel excited about the beauty of flowers!
To us, flowers are more than just pretty. They represent wellness and peace, the diversity of nature, and a way of life that goes beyond who you are or what you do. Tulips are universal, timeless and a way to connect with the land that gives us so much. And we want to share the beauty, colour, and the experience of the farm, straight from our fields, to you.
So, who should come stroll through the sea of colourful tulips?
Anyone! Local photographers, families, friends, out-of-town visitors, budding or expert gardeners with a passion for those dazzling petals! Couples looking for some fabulous getaway pics, or anyone intrigued about Dutch Culture and Tulip History. In short, those who want to witness the beginning of Spring in a unique and personal way.
We want to provide an inclusive festival where anyone can celebrate the beauty of our flowers, no matter their cultural background or personal beliefs.
